High-speed rotor for microparticle impact studies

چکیده

We report on the design, construction, and testing of a high-speed rotor intended for use in hypervelocity microparticle impact studies. The is based four-wing design to provide rotational stability includes flat “paddle” surfaces ∼0.5 cm2 at tips each wing. profile wing minimizes variation tensile forces any given speed. was machined using titanium (grade 5) operated high vacuum magnetically levitated bearings. Initial experiments were run several speeds up 100 000 rpm (revolutions per minute), corresponding tip speed 670 m/s. Elongation as function measured with precision micrometers focused diode laser found agree an elastic modulus 1.16 GPa material. Applications are discussed.

A Review of Recent Studies on Simulations for Flow around High-Speed Trains

Fluid flow around bluff bodies occurs in numerous fields of science and engineering, such as flows pass vehicles, cables, towers and bridges. These flows have been studied experimentally and numerically for the last several decades. The investigation of flow around high-speed trains is an important application of bluff bodies. Fluid flow, aerodynamic forces and moments, separation and wake regi...

Rotor Dynamic Response of a High-Speed Machine Tool Spindle

In high-speed machining, the maximum stable depth of cut at any spindle rotating frequency depends on the spindle-holder-tool dynamic stiffness as reflected at the tool’s free end. Because this dynamic stiffness can vary with rotating frequency, we have modeled the spindle dynamic response using a finite element-based rotordynamics approach. The spindle shaft is modeled using beam finite elemen...

Multiaxial Fatigue Analysis in a High-speed Microgenerator Rotor Shaft

Fatigue evaluation is one of the most concerning issue in the design of mechanical parts subject to alternative forces. Fatigue life estimation is more complicated when loads act on different axes. This paper shows the stress analysis result of the steel shaft of a high-speed microgenerator rotor with 47750 rpm and 100kW which has been carried out with analytical stress formulation. The shaft i...

A Novel Algorithm for Rotor Speed Estimation of DFIGs Using Machine Active Power based MRAS Observer

This paper presents a new algorithm based on Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) and its stability analysis for sensorless control of Doubly-Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs). The reference and adjustable models of the suggested observer are based on the active power of the machine. A hysteresis block is used in the structure of the adaptation mechanism, and the stability analysis is performe...

An Efficient and Robust Method for Predicting Helicopter Rotor High-speed Impulsive Noise

A new formulation for the Ffowcs Williams{ Hawkings quadrupole source, which is valid for a fareld in-plane observer, is presented. The fareld approximation is new and unique in that no further approximation of the quadrupole source strength is made and integrands with r 2 and r 3 dependence are retained. This paper focuses on the development of a retarded-time formulation in which time derivat...
